And by thing I mean I bought a car! Woo!

Kinja'd!!!

So, some of you might remember a few weeks back I was asking about certain cars to purchase since I was looking at replacing my Honda. Well, about a good 9 days ago or so (last, last Saturday), I was just bullshitting and looking at carmax.com. I had been looking at carmax off and on, and decided to up my price range, and behold, a 2014 Ford Fiesta popped up. I looked at it, it only had about 6,400 miles on it, and as such was being sold used. However, it never technically had a real owner, it was used as a dealer demo model, and after they were through with it, went to auction, sat for a month or so, and then landed at carmax. Where I promptly found it, took out a loan through my bank, showed up and said, "I want this car."

Honestly, this was the most pleasing car buying experience I have ever had, I showed up a bit early to my set up time with a salesman, so I had to wait a little, but the guy pointed me to the car since I wanted to check it out. As soon as I sat in the them Recaro seats I had a smile from ear to ear and my wife already knew I was going to buy it. So, an hour later I had paid for it and I was driving it off the lot. The ridiculously awesome thing about me buying from them, they registered the car for me and put plates on it for me. So no waiting around the DMV for 4 hours yay!

So far, the car is awesome, it's my first car I've ever had with a turbo, (and of course it's a 6 speed) and true sport seats. I can't stay out of the thing, the first two days I had it I had already gone through an entire tank of gas because I just wanted to drive it, it is such a satisfying experience driving this car. Very comparable to my 944, except for the fact the ST is FWD, I love it all the same, it handles almost as good as my 944 (as far as I can tell, I haven't put it through the wringer, yet)

Anywho I just wanted to share my experience with you all!

Oh an p.s., when I went to go buy the ST, I was wearing my Oppo shirt! No pics unfortunately, but it was still awesome, went to go buy an Oppo hot hatch wearing an Oppo shirt!

Congrats on the new ride. I tend to fluctuate between large and small vehicles. Way back when, I went from a CRX to a Yukon. I'm currently in a crew cab Tundra and have been looking at small hatches, Fiesta, Focus, even the 500 Abarth, with the substantial deals on those. I doubt I'll make the switch, but they've definitely be catching my eye.

I'm kind of the same as well, my first car purchase was a Chrysler 300, then a Porsche 944. I would say that the Fiesta, or maybe even the Abarth given enough deals, gives you the most bang for your buck. Plus Fiesta mods seem to be more on the affordable end, so that's always a plus.

It is fully loaded, every option except painted calipers, and I was out the door with 24k. Priced it out on build my own ST on the Ford website, came out to around 26, OTD in my area would have been at least a good 29-31k, so I jumped at this one.

I haven't actually run into a Fiesta ST in my area and have only passed two Focus STs in the past 9 months of ownership. Sparse up here.

But the dealer down the street has a used Tangerine Scream Focus ST on the lot now...pretty sure I sat in that on the showroom floor a couple years ago.

04/22/2014 at 13:19

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I still have yet to see a fellow Fiesta ST, I've only seen a few Focus ST's.

I heard that when the new generation of Focus ST's came out, dealers were being dumb as shit with them, over charging for everything and trying to nickle and dime buyers for every little thing, so as a result they sat for years.

Kinja'd!!! cazzyodo > Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom
04/22/2014 at 13:21

Kinja'd!!!0

That makes sense because the same ST I took a nap in two years ago was available last year when I was looking to buy.

Dumb haha.

I love Ford and wish they could do something to show what fun stuff they have as opposed to the stupid "and is better" commercials.

Kinja'd!!! Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom > cazzyodo
04/22/2014 at 13:39

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I mean that little Fiesta ST is a badass little machine. But to be honest, Ford knows it's target audience with the Focus/Fiesta ST, which are enthusiasts and trackers, I mean if you read the supplemental ST owners manual, you can just tell. It's sparse on bullshit details and gets into the useful info, like "hold this button for 5 seconds to turn off traction control, only use it on the track)

Loving it so far, and yes 2.0. Loads of torque, I went with it over the Fiesta because I felt the Fiesta was a little too small for me.

Kinja'd!!! Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom > ILLec
04/22/2014 at 13:51

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah the Fiesta is pretty small, I seem to be the prime size for a Fiesta, I'm 5'9 and 180 pounds, it's a bit snug but the fit seems perfect, I've had friends in it a bit bigger then me and it was too small for them.

What are the torque specs on it? Like 250? Mine has 200 and it goes, I can't wait to see it when/if I decide to change out the intercooler and intake for the mountune one

Kinja'd!!! ILLec > Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom
04/22/2014 at 13:58

Kinja'd!!!0

Torque is rated at 272 but at times feel like its even more. Im actually a little smaller than you size wise but liked the dimensions of the bigger car more. And a few of my friends are real tight in the seats as well, I think they are the same as whats offered in the Fiesta. Im looking at an intercooler too, Ive read these cars suffer from heat soak. Although its going to have to wait till after I get my FRPP kit, cant pass up that much power increase with a factory backed warranty.

Damn 272? How much does the car weigh?

What's the FRPP kit? I've got a lot of choices for intakes, but the intercooler choices are pretty limited, have you changed your intake yet?

Kinja'd!!! ILLec > Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom
04/22/2014 at 14:14

Kinja'd!!!0

Wight I believe is around 3150lb. Full FRPP kit is air filter, plugs, exhaust and a tune. Brings power up 48hp and 90lbft tq. Was looking at Cobb intake but read they have an issue with the symposer sometimes so I'm holding off in till after the kit.

Kinja'd!!! Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom > ILLec
04/22/2014 at 14:17

Kinja'd!!!0

Not too bad with the weight. And that power increase is pretty crazy, about how much will it run?

What exhaust are you going to run? I'm looking at putting on a Borla right now, but it's a ways away so my decision might change

Kinja'd!!! ILLec > Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom
04/22/2014 at 14:23

Kinja'd!!!0

I'm looking at the ford racing exhaust that comes with the kit. Supposedly its a re branded Borla with a resonator. The full kit (filter, plugs, tune, exhaust) runs $1450 but will also need to install at a dealer to get the 3yr/36k warranty. Another exhaust I like though is MRT, has a nice growl without being too loud.

Hmm, alright. I looked a little bit at Ford products, but have been looking more at mountune/fswerks to be honest, I wouldn't mind picking up some Ford stuff, but I just need to know how it sounds/looks first, which seems to be the problem with Fiestas, there are so little of them out there, that there isn't a whole lot of info when something new comes out.

Looking forward to it! I'm a noob when it comes to cars (learning by osmosis) and bought the ST after having driven two other manual vehicles...I just knew I wanted it and never looked back.

When I figure out some things this year I was going to ask for some suggestions here. Love OPPO's community!

That's why I've been a little hesitant as well. I haven't heard any of the exhausts companies in person and videos never do them justice. Although I've been following the build on The Smoking Tires' Fiesta ST and it seems to respond amazingly to the Cobb mods they've been throwing on it. They say the Fiesta is underrated from the factory in power too. Heard stories of them dynoing close to 200whp.

It's all good, we have to start somewhere. I didn't really know how to work on cars, so I bought a 944 haha. Best/worst automotive decision ever.

And that is great man, just always go with your gut. I spent months looking for and agonizing over a car, and I saw the Fiesta for sale, within 6 hours I was driving it home. When you know you know.

Yeah, the Fiesta ST was heavily under rated, mostly on torque. I think the TST guys dyno'd theirs stock at 230+ ft lbs, which is 20 more than Ford says it makes at the crank!

Definitely post up here when you do that FRPP kit. I've been eyeing that one as well. It actually seems like a pretty good deal considering they're OEM parts and comes with a warranty.
